Meet The Visionary

Some people follow the path laid out for them. Dispal Sakaria built his own.

His journey began when he was in the 8th grade and had just started working in his father's retail store to understand the workings of the business and help support his father. Later, at just 22, with no safety net, he took the bold step of immersing himself in the world of business, working at a clearing and forwarding agency without financial compensation, determined to master the fundamentals. Driven by a desire to bring something new to India, he started importing simple, everyday items like bicycle locks, bath scrubbers, and desk lamps using leveraged capital and storing all of it in his house. Not only that, but for more than a year he was the master of all trades- from being the salesperson and accountant to being the deliveryboy for his business since he didn't have additional resources, he did everything possible to support his vision.

What followed wasn’t luck, but pure persistence and instinct. The desk lamps clicked with customers, and he knew he was onto something. In 2005, spotting a shift in global trends, he took a leap into LED lighting. With no prior manufacturing experience, he started small and taught himself everything along the way. From a tiny workshop, he slowly built Lafit Lighting—step by step, expanding to larger facilities, investing in R&D, and establishing one of the first LED production units in India.

Over the years, under his leadership, LAFIT has crossed major milestones, established a wide network of 500+ dealers and collaborated with renowned architects and designers. LAFIT has formed alliances with prestigious international brands like QLT (Italy), Massive (Belgium), Globe (Austria), and Fumagalli (Italy), and expanded to a 50,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art factory.Today, LAFIT has two flagship experience centers in Mumbai, and a growing reputation for quality, innovation, and customer trust.

From running to PCOs to receive fax updates to building a factory, his journey is proof that grit, determination, and a deep passion for quality can turn ambition into legacy.Today, Lafit Lighting stands as a trusted name, not just in India but globally, a brand built by resilience, vision, and a refusal to settle for less. It’s a journey that turned a small idea into a national brand—and it’s still just getting started

Mr. Dispal Sakaria

I set out to forge my own path, but through my journey in interior design, branding, and digital media, I found my way back to Lafit. I recognized an opportunity to transform Lafit from a B2B lighting brand into a design-driven D2C brand.

With a B.A. (Honours) in Interior Environment and Design, I built a strong foundation in spatial planning and lighting design, which I later applied while consulting architects on their lighting needs. My work with architects in residential and commercial interiors ignited my passion for experiential design, which I saw as a key gap at Lafit. My experience in branding, market research, and visual strategy, along with freelancing as a graphic designer, gave me insights into how Lafit could better connect with consumers. As Digital Content Manager at Design Pataki, I worked with over 70 brands to shape digital strategy and storytelling.

Now, at Lafit Lighting, I’m leading the rebranding and repositioning, blending design and lighting. By refining our brand identity and digital presence, my goal is to make Lafit more accessible to architects, designers, and consumers, establishing it as an industry leader in innovative lighting design

Humble Beginnings

With unwavering determination, Mr. Dispal Sakaria founded Sakaria International, starting as a one-man powerhouse operating out of his Bombay residence. He was the founder, purchaser, salesperson, delivery boy, and accountant, all rolled into one. The journey began with importing and selling desk lamps.

2001

First Steps Toward Growth

The business expanded with its first employee and a small warehouse in Colaba, marking the beginning of a journey fueled by grit and vision.

2002

Nationwide Reach

Moving to an office space, the brand launched a collection of 25 unique desk lamps, catering to clients across India.

2003

Diversifying the Portfolio

Recognizing a growing demand for design-centric solutions, the company ventured into importing and selling decorative lighting.

2004

The Birth of Lafit

The trademark brand Lafit was officially registered, marking a new chapter in the journey.

International Partnerships Begin

Lafit secured its first major international partnership with QLT, Italy, for LED light distribution.

A Major Milestone

Lafit became the sole distributor for Massive, Belgium (later acquired by Philips), further cementing its reputation as a trusted name in lighting.

Pioneering LED Manufacturing in India

The company took a bold step, establishing a 150 sq ft assembly unit in Goregaon and a 2,500 sq ft manufacturing facility in Vasai. Lafit became one of the first Indian brands to manufacture LED lights locally.

2008

Building a Dealer Network

Lafit achieved a significant milestone by partnering with 100 dealers across India, extending its reach and impact.

2009

Scaling Up

The manufacturing facility in Vasai expanded to 15,000 sq ft with a team of 50 employees, reflecting Lafit’s rapid growth.

2010

Strengthening International Ties

Another major partnership was forged with Globo, Austria, enabling Lafit to distribute their products across India.

The dealer network grew to an impressive 300, a testament to the brand’s quality and trustworthiness.
